Hi ! I recenly had the fortune to view one of my friends Virgin Media M package bills for Telephone line rental £13 per month BT only charge £11 Broadband up to 2 Mb unlimited £18 a month ! Weekend and evening calls subsidy £3.45 per month a total per month of £34.45 per month ADD to that the cost of NOT paying by direct debit £10 a whopping £44.45 per month for just broadband and telephone and a connection speed of up to note UP to 2Mb ! WOW ! SERIOUSLY if you're with VIRGIN make sure after a year you look around at whats on offer re other providers ! and DON'T be put off by BT's connection or reconnection charges !! LONG TERM for example see the CAR PHONE WAREHOUSE deals and the BT deals lets put it this way the deal I secured for him now costs him £45 a month but this is what he gets and believe me he's ecstatic with it SKY PLUS BOX FREE SKY PLUS installation £30 SKY package all the main packages from movies to history to doc channels to music and similar Up to 8 Mb broadband (that's included in the £45 but cost him an extra £5) 3 MONTHS of ALL telephone calls FREE thats daytime national, local and similar calls PLUS FREE evening and weekend calls~thereafter a small charge to maintain the ALL FREE calls or simply opt out and just have FREE evening and weekend calls So an all in one package thats just 55p more a month then VIRGIN BUT has one extra bonus ! After one month should he wish to DOWNGRADE the package he can thus saving on costs by cutting out certain packages i.e movies and similar and still have the option at any time to UPGRADE ! ? its flexible which is how these packages should be ! OH and they also include the WIRELESS ROUTER FREE of CHARGE ! if he wanted to add on a wireless router currently with VIrgin they only supply it for £30 ! ALSO Sky will REFUND his connection fee to BT a saving of over £125 by giving him a credit on his account against that amount ! so basically he gets it back ! I'm not PLUGGING SKY there are other deals around that offer tailored to suit what you want at extremely good rates and I'm NOT knocking VIrgin media's intro offers they're dammed good BUT ONLY FOR NEW customers ! What I'm trying to point out is the fact that my friend had been with Virgin NTL for over 3 years but NEVER offered special offers or deals re the conception of VALUED CUSTOMER ! which is where some suppliers to put it bluntly deserve to lose customers cos their after sales service SUCKS ! However they're not to blame a suckers a sucker ... it was up to him to review and change ! which thankfully now he has ! CHECK your bills ! NOTE the term of the contracts and REVIEW your contracts after that time is up ! If your supplier is offering substantially lower rates to new customers and not offering YOU INCENTATIVES to stay with them tell em to sling their ! Remember itsYOUR MONEY not theirs ! and saving £200 + a year is several months of free internet at a decent speed ! let alone pints ! Lastly DO work out your needs ! if you only want broadband and phone then only have broadband and phone ! DO REMEMBER CABLE suppliers have distinct WIRELESS MODEMS they're NOT universal i.e ethernet in out/wireless but cable to ethernet adaptors / wireless likewise having broadband cable does NOT mean you have to have the phone line with them ! Take the example above ! he was paying £13 line rental PLUS had to pay an extra amount to have the free weekend and evening calls of £3.45 per month ! Thats £16.45 when he could have had VIRGIN BROADBAND without the telephone and had BT connection with FREE evening and weekend calls for just £11 per month ! BUT MOST OF ALL not felt intimidated by the connection fee's with BT for reconnection ! prolonging his agony with staying with an overpriced VIrgin Media as an EXISTING CUSTOMER of theirs, and giving him the widest choice re suppliers on broadband ! its simple KEEP YOUR OPTIONS OPEN
had same package as your friend, telewest now virgin media charging me £18 per month for up to 2mb, when i saw what new customers where getting i had a right kick off with customer services, they upgraded me to 10mb for £1 less than i was paying for 2mb,all well and good so far, but when i did speed test the most i got was 5.3mb.i thought these people are takin the piss. got on to customer services again, they were a bit snotty and defensive at first, but to cut a long story short, i am now back on M package 2mb for same price as new customers, even tho it will still say £18 on my bill. the sooner we get some proper regulations re broadband provision and advertising the better, people are being ripped off shamelessly
