I've downloaded the speedtester OK and the icon appears on my screen, but whenever I click on it, a window appears "Application already running".

Open up the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del), click on the "Processes" tab, look for "SpeedTester.exe", right click on it, "End Process". Re-open it.

Another thing, it sits on you Task Bar, left of the clock, double click on the black+white logo to view the speed tester app.

Thanks!!

Worked fine.

However, having done some Internet work, the next time I clicked on the screen icon, I got the same message - Application running - although my modem lights had stopped blinking. But using the lower toolbar icon, it worked as intended, with a record of past data, etc.

Is there any chance that it is running all the time and slowing down my computer? I'm getting 3.2Mb/s max, whereas on exactly the same setup I routinely got 5.2 - 5.5 Mb/s before I switched from Pipex Homecall to Talktalk.

Thanks for your prompt help, anyway

The speed tester runs at regular intervals (hourly, daily, etc).

When the speed test starts, it will begin a small download to test your speed. It is possible that at the exact same time, your connection is being used (such as by yourself). This in effect means the speed tester won't be able to get a full measure of your speed as some of the bandwidth is being used elsewhere.

Hope that helps.
