When I was a small child I would get up every Sunday morning at the crack of dawn, throw my clothes on and race to the car.

Why? Because Sunday was car boot sale day and that meant shopping!

My dad used to give my sister and I £2 every Sunday to spend as we chose at the car boot sale and I think being given responsibility for my own money and the way in which I spent it did help me develop an understanding of its value.

OK I may have had the odd teddy splurge but generally I learnt how to spend my money well.

There I was, a 5 year old power shopper, bartering away for the best bargains...

...and I have never stopped! (although sadly, I do not get to many car boot sales anymore...)

My parents have always encouraged us to save and although I can't say I have completely mastered the skill just yet, my sister has definitely benefited from saving at an early age. The clever hoarder left for university with thousands in the bank!

Oh sweet jealousy...

How did you learn the value of money?
