I was persuaded to move from OneTel to TalkTalk (same group) having complained so much about Onetel's service. I was promised "up to 8 meg" but they got the point in the wrong place, I get a speed of 0.79 !! Great!!!

Technically, "up to 8 meg" means anything between 0-8 meg...

It's misleading though, and the actual speed delivered is beyond poor....

Shame about the customer service problem with OneTel. I have been luckier. Stayed with them as my rural exchange not LLU but speed on 2 meg connection is invariably between 1.75 and 1.85 when I check, which seems reasonable after all the horror stories which are going around. Was worried when TalkTalk first took over, but fears were unfounded and I still get an excellent package deal at reasonable cost

I find performance has just deteriorated over time up to 8 meg ? fastest i can ever remember is 4.5 with an average of 2.75 to 3.75 but for the last 6 months i can't remember ever being over 2meg with usual connection speed being about 1.1 to 1.5.
Also it seems to take about 10 to 15 minutes to get a stable connection without it dropping out when you try to log into to msn or getting Internet explorer going.
Talk-talk tried to give me a new wireless modem if i would sign up for another 18 months as i only have 1 month left on my contract but i declined.
But where to now ?
Was on BT but to expensive , this Talk-talk broadband comes free with phone package which i don't use that much was more for the free b/band. I pay around £22 to £25 per month depending on how many calls i make ( not many ).
I live a long way from my exchange & new i would not get anywhere near 8 meg.
So do i have to put up with just over a meg connection??
Does anyone have any ideas to help ??

The most likely cause would be the server/site you are downloading from is slow and can't upload the data to you fast enough.
