Superfast Broadband for £6.49? Sounds like a good deal, but is it?

A Broadband Choices subscriber writes:

"I have been with Tiscali for just over 12 months and to start with yes the download speed stinks I get about 2.3mb but pay for an 8mb and I am only half a mile from the exchange. Also part of most ISP package is NewsGroups I have not been able to sign into NewsGroups with Tiscali. Since I have been with them I have contacterd them by Phone and Email and have been given various excuses but it will be sorted out soon. I have been told that an engineer will contact me in 3 working days yes you guessed it they didnt contact me. I was even told that they would give me £10 off my next bill........yes you guessed it it didnt happen."

"I then wrote a letter to them posted recorded delivery and it took them over 3 weeks to answer and they say it is being resolved,,,,,,,, come on Tiscali you have been saying that for over 12 months."

"Tiscali is not too bad for reliability for your conection but are slow like most ISP's but they dont half let them selves down with customer serve being in a country where they cant speak or understand good English, and they seem not to be able or want to help a customer and sort out there problem."

"My problem has not been resolved and a further letter has been sent to the General Manager customer services but although they say in there term they will reply within 7 working days that time has past and I am still waiting for a reply."

"So folks make your own mind up about Tiscali I have but its a shame as if the customer service was better I would have upgraded to the TV and phone package."

It is from my understanding that Tiscali has never been good.

tiscali (tiscrapi) are the worst uk isp, i used to use them nothing but non existant customer service or tech support, and a usless connection,as if was not fast or stable and ping times where a joke(high) as well and they are not getting any better, over contended, overseas cust servs/tech support (0871) minimum of 30mins waiting to speak to a person each time so do the maths £6.49 + calls to tiscrapi =£???? per month

I actually have found tiscali to be the best out of many ISPs I have tried.
I live about 400yards away from the exchange an my speeds hover at a steady 6.5 - 7.2mb (Ihave the 8mb unlimited package).
I have had TalkTalk who had me disconnected for 12 out of the 31 days I had them. It would take 2 minutes to load a page, almost made me nostalgic for my old dial up. When I attempted to change to another provider as I was coming up to the end of the trial period, they disconnected me completely.
Post Office - well I applied in July of last year and heard nothing until January I got a letter saying they were sorting out my connection and about to go live with my service. I told them not to bother
Orange took my money and ran. Overcharged me, helped themselves to cash from the bank and then threatened me when I tried to leave before my contract was up. Poor customer service, crap speeds
BT, took nearly 3 months to connect me and even then it was slow as anything.
I have heard people slate Tiscali (one of my friends called me an idiot for even thinking about using them), but in my experience I cannot praise them higher. Connection brilliant, speeds brilliant, never had any problems with my phone lines, price is fantastic.....

Tiscali well what can i say what a bunch of Ass OOOOO They have taken over Pipex, who i have been with for 4 Years with out any problems at all, my first package cost me £35.99 a month and there service was great, I then cut my cost and I hasten to add with no drop in service or connection speed, with speeds in the region of 4.9Kbps to £24.99 and after several monthes of no problems i recently discovered that there was a cheaper package so I decided to change to this £16.99 my package is unlimited and my 4 kids me and my wife all surf the net at the same time, with the kids playing WOW a lot of the time they need a good connection. They came to me this afternoon complaining of bad connection's so i did a speed test and found that i was connecting at 0.1 Kbps how on earth are they supposed to enjoy there game if they can't connect properly. I will be leaving Pipex/Tiscali and terminating my contract on the grounds that they are not supplying me with the service they promised to supply.. A very disapointed EX Pipex customer....

I too am with pipex, I used to be with tiscali & the service I got from them was sooooooo ba it drove me crazy. So I changed to pipex on the recommendation of friends, all was fine. Then pipex got bought out by tiscali, the ISP I was doing my best to get away from. So now I am stuck under a contract, but only now for another 7 weeks, then its, I'm out of there for good. They are so bad its beyond belief, as you have said the speed is stupid. I have been having problems with speed for a good 6 days now & the last check I did about 5 mins ago & I was getting 0.07kbs. This is slower than dial up, so what am I paying them broadband prices for.
