Corporate miss-selling is a big deal at the moment. Has anyone been tricked into signing a contract, or found themselves switching to a tariff which is, in fact, more expensive then their previous deal?
I had a man at the door a couple of weeks ago trying to get me to swith my fuel provider. My flat is all electric and I am currently with eon/powergen and had just moved to their capped rate until Oct 2009, which I told him. He then went off into some story about how eon/powergen was originally the East (or was that West?) Midlands Electricity board and that because of that, they were obliged to charge more than anyone else in their "home" area, which is where I live!!!!!!! I am assuming that is a load of rubbish? Well, I hope so as I told him to stop talking nonsense and to go away!
Telling him to go away was the right thing to do Freya - cold callers trying to get you to switch energy providers are a pain in the neck! npower were condemned a few years ago for sending their reps out to knock on the doors of people with rival energy suppliers.

There is some truth in that. Energy providers can charge whatever prices they like in other operators areas so they can gain new customers, but they are supposed to charge higher prices in there own area.
