Watch the tv ads you're hooked on BT TOTAL BROADBAND ? hmm... let me tell you I've used BT services re Broadband for a number of years, impressed YES and until recently always enamoured towards BT and their broadband being fast, convenient and although a trifle more expensive guaranteed reliability.. OOPS Manchester, DENTON to be precise, distance from exchange less than 1000metres, package BT option 2 with wireless hub the one they brag is TWICE the area coverage in comparison to other providers.. ? Installed only to realise the hub wasn't recognised by one of the wireless adaptors, it recognised everyone elses wireless setups including at least one BT homehub ! but not the one it was supposed to !! Ah at least the laptop recognised the homehub ! connection VERY GOOD note CONNECTION don't get conned into believing thats the SPEED of the internet or broadband connection ! it isn't ! Connected ETHERNET cable set up fine BUT noticeable SLOW page loading when connected to the internet ? Now ETHERNET connection is really a true indicator of how fast and dedicated the line connection is... the system should fly ! NOT a chance ! so I ran the speed tester on this site, real good ! just over twice the speed of a 57k modem?? are you kidding ! That's what is costing over 20 squiddies a month ???? more tests, checks and a line to BT regarding DISATISFACTION scroll on down to read the reply ! not kidding seriously bad on 'Well thats the situation and and ... ? get my drift ? I think most customers would have appreciated the CUSTOMER assistance touted by it ... OR NOT given its the 21st century and GUFF believe me GUFF ! why ? OK take Carthew near St Austell in Cornwall ? out in the sticks and approx 1 mile from the exchange ? the signal on the BT homehub was phenomenal ! easily up to 6Mb ? OK take St Austell in Cornwall, signal on homehub once again more than satisfactory with speeds up to 6Mb no probs.. but DENTON in Manchester less than 1000metres from the exchange ? 125K on average ?? .10 note POINT 10 of a megabyte ! Given this day and age BT has still got serious issues if this is the kind of service they end up leaving customers resigned to ? So be CAREFUL and ensure you rethink if you're in MANCHESTER though some other places might also apply.. your thoughts on that appreciated.. re BT and their services NOTE BT only please ! Now I have to tackle BT again and oh note they did NOT inform the customer the speed he could expect would be up to 2Mb ! here's that reply Thank you for your e-mail dated 28/7/08 about the broadband service.
I am very sorry to hear of the difficulties you have experienced related to the speed.
In relation to your enquiry I can inform you that BT Broadband offers speeds up to 8Mb, however we can only provide you with the best speed that your line can support.
At the moment your line can support broadband speeds up to 2Mb and this would have been advised to you at the time of the order.
We will provide the Broadband service at the fastest speed that yourline will support, but we cannot guarantee that every customer will receive the fastest speed.
The main factor which determines the speed at which a customer can receive Broadband is the length of the cable between their house and the exchange.
Lines longer than 10km are unlikely to be able to receive Broadband at all. The speed that lines shorter than 10km will be able to receive Broadband at depends on a variety of factors. As I already mentioned, the length of the line is very important, but there are other factors that can affect the result, such as the amount of joints in the line, the use of aluminium etc.
Each line is routed to the exchange individually and so it is possible, indeed likely, for neighbouring houses to receive different speeds. I'm afraid that BT will not be able to investigate for each individualline why they can only receive certain speeds, nor are we able to re-route or upgrade lines in order to provide customers with faster ADSL - the limit is a result of current technology, not any omission on the part of BT.
Whatever the result, BT undertakes to supply every customer with the fastest speed that their line will support.
I would like to inform you that you can check you speed of your broadband connection visit our website for information and advice at www.bt.com/help/broadbandspeed. The speed checker on this site is far better ! sincerely Jess Corbin
am I suppose to believe that God is good ? now that aside and one might add my writing rushed as it is Seems that up to 2Mb speed was a lie aswell ! the line speed tested to 112Kbps and was declared by BT as having a MAX note on further persistent investigation ! of 256Kbps which leaves me believing God is not so good ! Since when would I be paying on Option 2 20.99 per month to those who would sell me a white horse with black stripes declaring such to be a zebra ? think not ! I am however still astonished that in this day and age in MANCHESTER not more than 1000 metres from the Denton exchange that BT can without even shuffling their feet declare the maximum broadband (is that a euphenism ?) who said BROADBAND ! speed of 256Kbps ... hmm according to the file of 28.6Mb I wanted note WANTED to download it would have taken me at varying speed of 6 to 9Kbps just over 1hr and 41mins ... think not likewise THINK NOT where BT are concerned and their 20.99 per month ! views other than about my writing ... would be appreciated ! are there other places in the UK seriously CITY places with broadband connection at such unbelievable rates touted by the all glowing BT ?? God is good... the guy from BT said to downgrade the package would cost 40 squiddies ... customer service just excels ! does someone believe I would pay 15.99 for the same ? AND forty quid to downgrade ?? God is good... I cancelled the agreement ... have other options for nothing to connect for free... bout right.
I'm speechless, and that hasn't happened since i heard the Longpigs had split up.
Persist and all things are possible as Edison inventor of the light bulb often said 'To every problem there is a solution' SEEMS BT after days of badgering them have gotten round to accepting there was a problem and resolved it ! Speed has increased quite dramatically ! hmm we'll see for how long ! BUT congrats BT ! someone had the sense to actually HELP re the problem despie the innumerous number of phone calls and and !
i to am haveing problems getting no more than 512 speed download as are most of the village in which i live, BT tells me that i shoud get 2MB and if i pay a fee they will check to see what the problem is, if it is them i do not pay, as others have the same problem they should correct what ever the problem, we are less than two miles from the exchange.
