I don't think they should necessarily be free, i dont mind paying for local rate calls.
I think it is more important to have a good quality service where the operators understand their products and can actually help, not just fob me off with some guff.
They should be free considering the amount of time I spend chatting to VirginMedia about the numerous problems... But don't get me wrong, they're making it free and many of the services now connect you to a british call centre.
...which is good to know. Tech support for the BT group of ISPs is now free also.
I personally think they should all be free, based on the relative number of complaints ISPs receive. Broadband complaints are high, therefore tech support should be free until ISPs have earned the right to charge for it.
I find that argument a little xenophobic. If they're free, but overseas, what difference does it make? Is there really a language barrier, or are we just entering into super reactionary Daily Mail readership territory here?
I think those who complain about overseas call centres are simply opportunists who can see an avenue whereby a form of mild (and seemingly socially acceptable) racism can be exercised.
Of all the Indian call centres I've tried (all both of them), they have been utter crap. They don't understand what you're asking them, but more importantly, you don't understand.
I've just re-read my post and it's a bit Guardian reader. I'm not feeling myself today James, sorry, that's what a crushing and cruel defeat on penalties can do to a man, even a man of my calibre.
I have tried http://www.saynoto0870.com/ for Barclays and Virgin media with no luck..... great idea but most big company keep there real numbers a state secret
I think they should be free, especially the larger providers, you paying premium rates to hear them talk from the same script whatever your problem is.
